The dog ran away, chased him to prevent him from ending up on the tracks but was run over and killed by the oncoming train. Thus died Francesco Rizzo, 31 years old in a few days, a young resident of the Cuneo area, with Spanish citizenship, a few meters from the Porto Marghera station in Venice. There he was walking the night between Friday and Saturday, just before one o’clock: he was with his partner, of Spanish origin and their three dogs, when one of these ran away.
It was a moment, the young man ran after him trying to save him in the moments when the regional train to Verona was passing and for Rizzo there was nothing to do. The driver was unable to avoid the impact, stopping at the station. Near the point where the accident took place there is a bus stop: the people waiting for the vehicle heard the screams of the companion and called for help. The police intervened: railway police officers for surveys and firefighters. “You, my friend, taught me the sense of courage – a friend remembers it on social media -. You have been yourself in every moment”. Just a goodbye for many, with a wish: “Continue your reckless journey”.
