The National Scientific Technical Committee, coordinated by Franco Locatelli from Bergamo, has given the green light to this possibility, incorporated in the indications of the Ministry of Health. And since yesterday also for Lombardy the ministerial indications are “immediately operational”: the regional Welfare Directorate has confirmed that, subject to medical opinion and informed consent, the under 60 can opt for the administration of the second dose of AstraZeneca, refusing the so-called “vaccination heterologous »and therefore different viral drugs. With a clear specification: “If it is impossible to convince them to receive Pfizer or Moderna”.
The Janssen vaccine, on the other hand, is reserved for the over 60s or for specific situations. Therefore a clear stance after the doubts and the various hypotheses. The opinion expressed on the matter by the CTS is inspired by the principles of maximum caution, risk-benefit ratio and safeguarding the autonomy of choices concerning the health of the individual. “In this circumstance, the benefit deriving from the cancellation of the risk associated with the partial protection conferred by the administration of a single dose of Vaxzeviria (AstraZeneca) must also be considered”, reads the opinion of the CTS provided to the Ministry of Health, on the assumption precisely that the citizen vaccinated with AstraZeneca refuses a second dose with a different vaccine.
