Trains almost twice as fast and without having to revolutionize the railway infrastructure? It may seem like a utopia. In fact, this is a possibility they are working on RFI (Italian Railway Network) e Nevomo. The two companies, in fact, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to verify the technical and economic feasibility of being able to exploit the skinny technology which makes it possible to superimpose the systems for the magnetic levitation. This is a project that could open up very interesting prospects for the railway system.
The two companies, therefore, will verify the possibility of exploiting this technology and its potential. Being able to integrate the magnetic levitation transport system on existing lines, not just high-speed ones, could revolutionize rail transport, making it faster and more efficient. All without excessive costs given that it would not be necessary to upset the current railway infrastructure.
According to what has been said, the magrail system also allows you to to coexist on the same line traditional trains and those with magnetic levitation that could have a speed of 75% higher. To carry out this project, the two companies will ask for funding from the European Union. The goal is to get to then carry out a pilot project on the test circuit owned by RFI in Bologna San Donato.
This would be the last test phase to enable the certification and homologation processes necessary for the commercial implementation of the technology to be initiated. It will be very interesting to follow the progress of the project. For the moment no specific dates have been communicated. All that remains is to wait for further news.
