Easter 2021 is a kind of deja vu from last year. Today and tomorrow it is allowed to leave the house only for reasons of work, health and urgency. It is then possible to visit relatives and friends or move into a second home. With the national red zone established by the anti-Covid decree, Italy is practically armored to curb the pandemic. Two days of total closure, then from Tuesday the country divides itself back into orange and red bands. And to enforce the prohibitions and ordinances on these holidays, there are tens of thousands of street checks, as well as checkpoints and police patrols.

Even stricter rules in some territories and sweeping checks in cities and on the waterfront with zero tolerance. In Campania, Puglia and Liguria, no access to second homes for residents and non-residents, and in Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, South Tyrol, Trentino, Tuscany, Marche, Calabria and Sardinia for non-residents. Armored the islands.
The festive lunch
You can visit relatives and friends but only to a single private home, with the usual extra curfew times (between 5 and 22), for a maximum of two people with minors under 14 in tow. In fact it is the same measure adopted during the Christmas holidays. Of course, there remains the possibility of being able to move, regardless of visits to relatives and friends, but only for the “proven needs”. With non-cohabitants it is recommended to wear a mask to protect especially the elderly and frail people. At the table it is recommended to keep the distance and also be careful not to mix cutlery and serving dishes. Better to avoid buffet lunches.
Covid, Easter in the red zone: here’s what can be done and what is forbidden
Picnics and trips out of town are prohibited
Absolute ban on picnics and trips out of town: it is allowed to visit family members and relatives, but the lockdown blocks the possibility of any movement. You risk fines of 400 euros per person. At the limit, you can fall back on the home garden, for those lucky enough to have it, of course. Always respecting the rules: no gatherings, so no party with too many people.
How many can travel by car
If you go by car with people not living together, you can stay up to three people. The passenger seat must remain free, the rear seats must be occupied while wearing the grille.
Movements to second homes
You can go to the second house even if it is outside the region but respecting some restrictions. First of all, only those who prove to be the owner or tenant before January 14, 2021 can go. The house can only be reached by the cohabiting nucleus and the house must be uninhabited. Friends and relatives cannot be invited.

The rule of returning to one’s home remains
The rule of returning to one’s home remains. From January 16, 2021, the provisions in force allow, in fact, to “return” to one’s residence, domicile or home, without providing for any limitations with respect to the so-called “second homes”. So you can also move from one region to another to access your second home. With some rules to follow (details here).
However, some regions have said “no” to access to second homes
Block imposed on non-residents in Valle d’Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Tuscany, Piedmont, Marche and Calabria. Sardinia has also imposed on residents the presentation of the negative result of the swab. Campania, Liguria and Puglia forbid residents to go to second homes as well. Sicily leaves free circulation but to enter the negative result of the swab must be presented.
Yes to walks near the house
It is allowed to walk near your home. However, it is mandatory to respect the distance of at least one meter from people and wear a mask. Sports activities can be carried out in your municipality, from 5 to 22, individually and outdoors, maintaining an interpersonal distance of two meters. By bike or jogging you can leave your municipality.
Travel, quarantine and mandatory swab
Until April 6, those returning from a country of the European Union must remain in quarantine for five days and can only leave after a negative swab. Until April 30, those returning from a country outside the EU, Austria and the United Kingdom must remain in quarantine for 14 days and can only leave after a negative swab.
Easter abroad: what are the rules to follow when returning
The other reasons to move to Easter and Easter Monday
We are all in lockdown until April 5th. In addition to what it is possible to do, as we have seen (from visits to relatives and friends, to assistance to non self-sufficient people), there are other possibilities for movement and movement despite the squeeze. Some examples? Shopping in a different municipality or doing sporting activities (running or using the bike for sporting activities are allowed and allow you to enter and exit in another neighboring municipality). We can move to another center, if, for example, we are interested in shopping for reasons of necessity in another municipality.
Shops, bars, restaurants, shopping centers
Hairdressers, clothing stores, beauty centers, jewelers are closed. In the red zone all those shops for services to people remain open: laundries, dry cleaners, bookstores, food and electronics stores, perfumeries, shoe shops and jewelers. On the other hand, the markets closed. For bars, on the other hand, take-away is allowed only until 6 pm. In the orange band all the shops are open, while the shopping centers – except the food plates – are closed on holidays and before holidays. Newsstands, pharmacies, tobacconists inside remain open.
How the colors of the Regions have changed since Tuesday
Since Tuesday I am in red band Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont, Puglia, Tuscany and Valle d’Aosta. I am in orange zone Abruzzo, Basilicata, Lazio, Liguria, Marche, Molise, Sardinia, Trentino-Alto Adige, Umbria and Veneto. In these latter regions you can go out freely while remaining within your own Municipality of residence. Shops, hairdressers, beauty centers reopen. Bars and restaurants remain closed.
Who goes back to school on Wednesday
Pupils from “kindergarten, primary and first-year secondary school attendance” also return to the red zone. In the red areas, second and third grade pupils and high school students follow the lessons with distance learning. In the orange areas, second and third grade pupils attend lessons face-to-face. For high school pupils, “face-to-face teaching must be guaranteed for at least 50 percent, and up to a maximum of 75 percent”.
