For AstraZeneca this is a real ban: the Regions cannot administer the vaccine to people under the age of 60. For Johnson & Johnson, on the other hand, there is no ban. The circular of the Ministry of Health of 11 June merely reiterates the recommendation of avoid inoculating the single-dose vaccine to people under 60. No constraints, therefore. This is the reason why the number of administrations has definitely dropped, but not dropped to zero or almost, as happened for AstraZeneca (of which, however, doses, albeit few, continue to be injected to the under 60 despite the ban). It should be emphasized that in the weeks preceding the AstraZeneca stop, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was administered mainly to the youngest and it is therefore not surprising that this trend continues even now, albeit with very different proportions. Let’s see, then, which regions are continuing to administer this vaccine to the under 60s, starting with those who – like Lazio – affect the total data more than anyone else.

Vaccinations with Johnson & Johnson for under 60s

From 12 to 17 June, 30,409 Johnson & Johnson vaccines were injected to under-60s and 19,005 for over 60s, both figures clearly down compared to the same days of the previous week (213 thousand for under 60s, 41 thousand for over 60s). The administrations for each individual age group under 60 see one prevalence of 40 and 50 year olds, but not only:

  • 12-19 years: 272
  • 20-29 years: 3,587
  • 30-39 years: 5,555
  • 40-49 years: 13,899
  • 50-59 years: 7,096

Which Regions administer J&J to under 60s

On the total of 30 thousand doses of Johnson & Johnson administered since June 12 to people under 60, the data differ greatly from region to region. The Lazio, for example, it has injected over 20,000 doses, about 70% of the national total. While other territories such as Umbria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia they gave only 3 doses of J&J to the under 60s. Let’s see the Johnson & Johnson administration data to the under 60s Region by Region:

  • Abruzzo 848
  • Basilicata 130
  • Calabria 562
  • Campania 2.214
  • Emilia-Romagna 47
  • Friuli-Venezia Giulia 3
  • Lazio 21.572

  • Lombardy 1.992
  • Walking 81
  • Molise 127
  • Bolzano 161
  • Trento 12
  • Piedmont 435
  • Apulia 748
  • Sardinia 21
  • Sicily 1,230
  • Tuscany 114
  • Umbria 3
  • Aosta Valley 4
  • Veneto 39

The administration of AstraZeneca to the under 60s after the stop

After the circular of the Ministry of Health of 11 June the inoculation of AstraZeneca vaccine for under 60s is prohibited. But the data published by the government and aggregated by Fanpage.it say something a little different: from 12 to 17 June, 1,213 doses of AstraZeneca were administered to people under the age of 60. An actually low figure, which could also relate to administrations communicated at a time after the inoculation or specific cases for which another type of vaccine such as mRna is not recommended. There is another fact that emerges, also in this case, that is the clear difference between the individual regions: Campania at zero of Molise and Valle d’Aosta. Here is the data Region by Region:

  • Abruzzo 133
  • Basilicata 112
  • Calabria 154
  • Campania 304
  • Emilia-Romagna 61
  • Friuli-Venezia Giulia 10
  • Lazio 14
  • Liguria 18
  • Lombardy 22
  • Walking 90
  • Molise 0
  • Bolzano 4
  • Trento 18
  • Piedmont 26
  • Apulia 78
  • Sardinia 1
  • Sicily 46
  • Tuscany 26
  • Umbria 4
  • Aosta Valley 0
  • Veneto 92
