To kill Saman Abbas it was the uncle Danish Hasnain. His brother reiterated this in the evidentiary incident 16enne of the girl of Pakistani origin who disappeared for almost a month and a half a Novellara, in the Bassa Reggiana. The testimony of the minor was crystallized, confirming what he had already told the investigators about the murder of his eighteen-year-old sister. The hearing protected this morning in court in front of the investigating judge a Reggio Emilia it started at 9.30 and lasted just over two hours. During the hearing, according to reconstructions, Saman’s brother protected his parents in answering questions. The boy is still under protection in a community and, as reported by the Gazzetta di Reggio in recent days, he allegedly tried to escape. Hasnain, 33, is wanted in Europe together with the other suspects: Saman’s parents, Shabbar Abbas e Nazia Shaheen, who fled to Pakistan, and his cousin Nomanulhaq Nomanhulaq which is also presumed to be in Europe.
The other cousin investigated, Ikram Ijaz, the only person arrested in the affair, attended the hearing this morning on video link from the prison of Reggio Emilia: he has been detained there since 9 June when he was handed over to Italy by the French authorities who had stopped him on 28 May as he fled to Spain. All five suspects are accused of premeditated murder, body concealment and kidnapping. Ijaz, his defense lawyers said, confirmed his willingness to make spontaneous statements to the prosecutor and “we will do it as soon as possible”. Ijaz was filmed on April 29 by surveillance cameras of the farm where Saman’s family lived and worked, while with his uncle Danish Hasnain and his other cousin Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq they headed towards the fields with shovels, crowbar and a bucket, presumably to dig the grave in which to conceal the body. It was the day before the alleged crime that took place on the night between April 30 and May 1. In the questioning of guarantee on 12 June last in court in Reggio Emilia he said he was “unrelated to the matter”, but expressed the will – reaffirmed today by the legal defenders – to collaborate with the judiciary.
