Pope Francis, at the end of the general audience in the courtyard of San Damaso, greeted Egan Bernal, winner of the Giro d’Italia. “A special meeting to bring him a gift from all Colombians”, the Maglia Rosa and the bicycle, said the same cyclist. The Pope joked asking him how many coffees he had before having a competition and then he blessed him and his girlfriend Maria Fernanda Motas. “I am a Catholic and before the most difficult stages, please”, the Colombian champion confided to journalists. Asked about doping, he stressed that cycling today is “one of the most controlled sports and for me it is one of the cleanest sports”.
