Fear rises in Puglia for infections due to the Indian variant, now known as the delta variant. The Institute of Zooprophylaxis of Puglia and Basilicata has already identified 25 positivity attributable to this mutation of the Covid virus, but other analyzes are underway and the number of positives could increase further. Repubblica reports that two clusters have already emerged in Brindisi, with a strong chain of infections, which has even brought three people from this group to intensive care. The virus in the other infected group caused one death, as well as another person in intensive care.

Compared to the other variants of Covid in the Brindisi cases, greater aggression was noted, even if only one of these people was vaccinated. None of them had been abroad and they hadn’t even traveled to Italy: no relationships with people from India emerged. “The Indian variant has started to circulate in our region and could replace the English one, now dominant. We have started a surveillance activity to intercept the onset of new variants as soon as possible and isolate them. The intent is to systematize them all. the structures that perform diagnostics to take into account all the swabs analyzed ”, the alarm launched by Antonio Parisi, director of the molecular biology laboratory of the Zooprophylactic Institute of Puglia and Basilicata.
