Thus the Minister of Defense Lorenzo Guerini this morning in his speech on the occasion of the inauguration of the Varese vaccination center set up in a very short time by the Defense staff.
To inaugurate the new center of Varese, named after the Honorable Giuseppe Zamberletti, founder of the Civil Protection, in addition to Minister Guerini, also the President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana and the Mayor of Varese Davide Galimberti. Also present were the coordinator of the anticovid vaccine plan of the Lombardy Region Guido Bertolaso, the President of the Province Emanuele Antonelli, the general director of ASST Settelaghi Bonelli and the military, political and civil authorities. And on the choice to name this center in memory of Hon. Zamberletti, Minister Guerini affirmed “a political figure of depth who had the intuition of the birth of the Civil Protection, decisive in the country for the many challenges won in recent years and now, together and with the contribution of all, public, private, Croce Red and the world of volunteering, we must win this battle and the Defense will do its part, as has been done since the beginning of the emergency ”. The structure, located on the shores of Lake Varese, was set up in 38 working hours by the Tactical Logistics Regiment of the Support Brigade to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps stationed in Solbiate Olona and consists of two tensile structures of over 50 meters and 12 wide, for a total of 1224 square meters. Thanks to the collaboration of the Civil Protection, Ats Insubria, ASST Settelaghi and the Municipality of Varese, at full capacity it will host over 2500 people a day and will be the reference point for vaccinations in the Varese capital and neighboring municipalities. From today, people over 80 will be vaccinated, and then, starting from 12 April, the campaign will gradually involve the entire population of the area, up to 300,000 citizens. Defense’s commitment continues unceasingly throughout the country, both for the tracing of the virus and for the support of the vaccination campaign with two major operations directed by the Operational Command of the Joint Forces Summit: “IGEA” for screening activities and “EOS” for the logistical transport and administration of vaccines. Today 125 Drive Through Defense are active throughout Italy, set up by the Armed Forces at the request of the health authorities, with a total use of 323 military medical personnel, to boost tracing activities through the execution of swabs; and more than 2.5 million have been made so far.

Drive Through is flanked by vaccination devices fed by military doctors and nurses, activated by the Defense to support the vaccination campaign in favor of civilians: those of Isernia, Cosenza, where the field hospital built by the Italian Army has been converted, Pomigliano D’Arco, in the province of Naples, Rome at the Cecchignola, Milano, one at the Military Hospital of Baggio and the other at the Drive Through of the Trenno Park, inaugurated on March 15, and where two of the eight lines already operational dedicated to screening have been converted into vaccination stations, with a full capacity of 2000 vaccines per day. In these days preceding the Easter holidays, the work of the Armed Forces is continuing unabated to allow the opening of new vaccination centers. From today the vaccination center opens in Lecce and tomorrow, Easter Sunday, and Monday, the works for the establishment of a new defense vaccination unit in “drive through” mode for people with mobility difficulties will be completed inside the “Berardi Barracks” ”, Headquarters of the 232nd Army Transmission Regiment, ad Avellino, and will be operational from Tuesday 6 April.
