ROME (ITALPRESS) – Economic citizenship, sustainable development and circularity were the themes at the center of the first public assembly of FEduF, Foundation for Financial Education and Savings. The event, which represented an opportunity for discussion and reflection, took place digitally.
“Change is the legacy that this period leaves us”, said Stefano Lucchini, president of FEduF. For Lucchini, faced with the difficulties of the pandemic, “financial and savings education must play an important and vital role in the restart platform, more than we have been able to do before. It is up to us – he explained – to transform awareness of a role in the operational program that integrates with the challenges that the Draghi government has placed on the table in the second Italian reconstruction and supports them so that financial education for young and old, on the eve of the advent of digital currencies, for example , is the equivalent of the Italian language which in his time was taught by Maestro Manzi in the aftermath of the post-war reconstruction. growth of both the old analog world and the new digital world “. For Lucchini, therefore, “we are facing a unique opportunity for growth and development with unrepeatable conditions” and “Feduf must play its full part and be among the protagonists of this decisive phase”.
Among the objectives of the Foundation created by ABI, there is also the dissemination of economic citizenship skills in Italian schools, to develop awareness of the importance of the use of money from childhood and in close connection with the values of sustainability.
For Antonio Patuelli, president of ABI, the idea of the “second reconstruction” represents “a very right principle”. “We must pursue – he explained – a new economic boom, a new economic miracle. If 70 years ago the Marshall Plan was a prerequisite, now the Recovery is the new multiplier, much more solid in terms of size and not aimed at food as it is. it was the Marshall Plan. Now, on the other hand, we need investments “, he added, also speaking of those” in education, in moral, civil and social growth and to this end, education to save is fundamental “.
According to the research carried out by the Intesa Sanpaolo Savings Museum, young people between the ages of 13 and 18 are increasingly attentive to the issue of sustainability, understood with a broader meaning that also includes the economic point of view. According to the study, over 85% of young people interviewed say they usually think about how to manage their money and about three out of four young people admit to saving money in view of the realization of a personal project. It therefore emerges that young people who are attentive to the environment are also attentive to the use of money and, conversely, those who show a mature management of resources are even more committed to protecting the environment.
During the online event, Andrew Morlet, CEO of The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, for his part, stressed that the circular economy is “from many points of view an economic model for long-term prosperity” and recalled the “opportunities that we have ahead to ensure that there is a new stimulus for the economy “.
“Economic and financial crises – said Annamaria Lusardi, director of the Committee for the coordination of financial education – help financial education a lot, which however is not a response to the crisis but to the changing world. Crises make education financial more urgent because they make evident at all costs the lack of financial knowledge “. “We believe that the time has come to invest in young people – he added – and we must do it starting from the school because only the school can reach all the students and reduce the differences that exist”.
