Florence, 9 June 2021 – “What happened leaves dismay. All my solidarity goes to the principal ”. Alessandro Artini he is the Tuscan president of the PNA, the national association of principals. There news of the principal under investigation by the prosecutor for manslaughter after an employee of the institute he runs died of Covid, it shocked him deeply.
How did it come to that?
“That’s what I’m wondering too… Our category this year has been particularly tested. Together with those in health care, school administrators are those who have suffered the most from the complicated situation on their skin. We all worked every day, without time limits. And if the school has reached the sound of the last bell, despite all the troubles of the past months, it is due precisely to the commitment of the managers, supported and supported by collaborators, as well as obviously to the teachers. What happened, of which I still do not know the details, deeply shocks the sensitivity of the managers. It’s like a punch in the eye. He seems to disown the role we played. Obviously then a sort of ‘defensive medicine’ arises, made up of a bureaucracy that refuses to sign ”.
Too many responsibilities on your shoulders?
“It is absurd that, in a pandemic context, in which the virus has struck everywhere, we go to investigate the principal, who certainly, as we all have done, has spent himself in elaborating protocols to safeguard people’s lives … we may have made mistakes. But whoever takes responsibility cannot be the only one to pay ”.
What would you like to say to this principal?
“I’m close to him. I would like to send him all my solidarity. The fact that the possible charge of manslaughter hangs over his head makes me sick. I’m really speechless ”.
