Florence, 9 June 2021 – “I feel good, now I’m going to work”. These are the words of Laura Giovannuzzi as she leaves the municipal pharmacy of Viale Europa, in Florence, where she just got vaccinated with Jansenn’s dose of Johnson&Johnson. “I already had an appointment for the vaccine – she explained – but it was some time later and, having learned about the initiative on social media, I immediately booked and was the first”.
Thanks to the agreement signed with Federfarma Toscana and Confservizi Cispel Toscana, the possibility for the region’s pharmacies to administer vaccines to people among the 60 and 79 years old, more prone to get sick from Covid and who have difficulty booking on the regional portal. In Florence there are two active pharmacies, the one in Viale Europa and the one in San Niccolò. From 15 June others will be added throughout Tuscany. “The goal – commented the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani – is to reach a membership of at least 50 percent of the pharmacies in the area”.
There are about 90 percent of vaccinated people in their 70s, while coverage is 80 percent for those over 60. “There are still several thousand people missing among the 60 and 70 years who should get vaccinated. To them I say – the regional councilor for health, Simone Bezzini appealed – get vaccinated. To do this, if you are unable to make an appointment online or cannot reach the hub, contact your family doctors or pharmacies ”.
