From today, with the end of the school year, the Municipality of Milan has reactivated Area B, the Ztl that corresponds to almost the whole city, Area C, the Ztl of the historic center, and the paid regulated parking reserved for residents. The situation, with regard to the bans on mobility, due to the progressive increase in traffic in the city returns to the same as in the period prior to the Covid emergency.
The reactivation of Area B and C
Since the entry of Lombardy into the yellow zone, the data of private traffic in the city have undergone a progressive increase, as explained by the Municipality compared to 2019, the congestion index is 47% higher, while the entries in Area C of vehicles payment are 37% higher. With the reactivation of Area B and Area C at the end of the school year, consequences on the level of public transport will be avoided. With the absence of students, in fact, passengers will decrease in the most critical hours and, thanks to the Pact on city timetables promoted by the Prefect and the Mayor of Milan, the concentration of passengers will continue to be avoided in the hours of greatest use, including 8 and 9 in the morning. Furthermore, in recent weeks, according to data from the Municipality, there has been an increase in the use of bicycles and shared vehicles.
The rules of Area B and C
Area B coincides with a large part of the territory of the city of Milan. It is a restricted traffic area with a ban on access and circulation for the most polluting vehicles and for those with a length of more than 12 meters carrying goods. Area B is active from Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 19:30, excluding holidays. Access, where permitted, is not subject to payment. From today, Area C is also back in operation, for a fee from 7.30 to 19.30 and with access bans for diesel vehicles euro 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 and petrol euro 0 and 1.
The regulated parking
The parking with the yellow stalls, intended for residents, will return to be reserved and the blue stalls will be paid again except, where provided, for those who reside or are domiciled in the respective areas in possession of the pass. The control service for the parking ban on the occasion of street cleaning is also restored.
Specific exceptions will remain in force for people working in the health and social and health sector of the emergency and the suspension of Area B for diesel euro 4 will be maintained until further notice, in line with the provision taken by the regions of the Po basin.
