Milano – Wednesday 9 June 2021, at 17.00, on Grande Milano Study Center presents on its page YouTube a new live streaming match for the series Tastes of the future. Live from the Elfo Puccini Theater in Milan, Flavio Caroli holds the lectio magistralis entitled The seven pillars of today’s art, from the title of his latest book on contemporary art.
Milano – At the origin of the many languages ofcontemporary art, Caroli identifies seven revolutions that have matured since the years of the Second World War. The adventure can only begin with Action Painting and the paintings by Jackson Pollock – alongside him, the Frenchman Jean Fautrier, founder of the Informal on this side of the Atlantic -, to continue with Pop Art in a «world that escapes the boundaries of traditional visual art in every way ». While photography and figurative painting, two languages in combat with each other for more than a century and a half, impose themselves through the shots of Irving Penn and Ugo Mulas, and the paintings of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud: everything is ready for successive revolutions.
Milano – Environmental Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Arte Povera, Body Art, self-harm in London in the seventies, the pioneer Marina Abramović, Abstract Art, Anish Kapoor, “an admirable bridge between art of ‘East and Western art’, up to the ‘anti-Mannerist’ of the Eighties – which always, over the centuries, anticipate the century that is about to begin rather than close their own time -, with protagonists, among others, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Caroli tells of the formation and evolution of these fundamental artistic junctions, points out the derivations, the legacies matured and the projections into the future, among personal memories, anecdotes and poetic interpretations.
