The EU budget proposal for 2022, put forward today by the Commission, “reflects the EU’s political priorities, which are relevant to guaranteeing a sustainable recovery”. Scrolling through the chapters of the budget, the following items are highlighted: € 118.4 billion in grants from NextGenerationEu as part of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, “to mitigate the economic and social impact of the pandemic”; € 53.0 billion for the common agricultural policy and € 972 million for the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund; 36.5 billion euros for regional development and cohesion, reinforced by 10.8 billion euros by NextGenerationEu “to support the response to crises”; 14.8 billion “to support our partners and interests in the world, of which 12.5 billion in the neighborhood, development and international cooperation instrument”. Other items include: 13.1 billion for research and innovation; € 5.5 billion for strategic European investments, including cross-border infrastructure and the Digital Europe program; 4.7 billion for social cohesion; 1.9 billion for the environment and climate action. Other funds will be allocated to border protection, reception of migrants and asylum seekers, defense and common security, health policies.
Speaking today at the plenary of the European Parliament, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen took stock of the situation on the pandemic, economic recovery, vaccines. “To date, we have received 23 national plans, plans that send a very clear message: Europeans are ready for a new start. Now it is necessary to implement these plans. With NextgenerationEu we have decided to make our recovery a European recovery ”. “We Europeans will all come out of this crisis stronger than ever and NextGenerationEu demonstrates how much good we can achieve when we work together”.
