It’s a Marc Marquez visibly proven what he speaks at the end of the day of testing in Barcelona. A long and demanding day, which the eight-time world champion made the most of not only to try new things and develop that Honda RC213V which must go back to being competitive and exploitable (at least by him) but also for work on his driving, training and returning to the level – physical and technical – at which Marc knows how to express himself to make a difference.
“I’m destroyed! I am very tired, I suffered, but I needed a day like this, in which to drive a lot. I tried a few things, but mostly I worked on myself to ride better. I did as many laps as possible. At first I was in a bit of trouble, then it got better. I couldn’t push 100%, but at the same time it was an important day to check my physical condition. “
Marquez worked on three bikes, with particular attention to one with raw carbon fiber fairings.
“We tried some new aerodynamics, since we still have the possibility to do a homologation (the regulation grants two a year, Ed). I heard some small differences, maybe the new solution can be useful on some circuits. The ‘black’ bike instead had several big changes compared to this year’s bike, but it is not a prototype. Let’s say it’s similar to something I’ve already tried, which we need to understand the path to take for the future. We will come back to it in the Misano tests. “
Of course Marc keeps the most absolute confidentiality on the differences compared to the RC213 that is taking to the race this year.
“The engine is the same (on the other hand, development is blocked, with the freezing of the engines until the end of 2021, Ed), there are important balance changes instead. These are not simple changes to the set-up, but something bigger. However, I was able to ride better than when I was able to do on Sunday: this is the positive aspect of these tests ”.
