In addition to iOS 15, the future version of the operating system for the iPhone which will arrive in beta as early as next month, Apple on the virtual stage of WWDC 2021 has also announced iPad 15. The next version of OS for iPad brings with it many new features to make the brand’s tablets even more productive!
Unfortunately iPadOS 15 does not come very close to macOS Monterey as some perhaps hoped after the announcement of the iPad Pro with M1 chip but the improvements are there and there are many.
“We are excited to make the iPad experience even better with iPadOS 15“, he has declared Craig Federighi, senior vice president of Software Engineering di Apple. “With more intuitive multitasking, a new home screen design with integrated widgets and the App Library, the ability to take notes throughout the system with Quick Note, Translate designed for iPad, SharePlay, a redesigned Safari experience, new tools for staying focused and more, users can now be even more productive“.
With iPadOS 15, users will be able to make better use of multitasking features of Apple tablets thanks to a new way of reaching Split View e Slide Over. A new menu dedicated to multitasking appears at the top of the applications, allowing you to go into Split View or Slide Over mode with a single touch.
Quick access to the home screen is now available when using Split View, making it easier to reach the desired app. Using the new Shelf users can make better use of multitasking capabilities with apps that have multiple windows such as Safari and Pages, as well as quickly preview emails. They have been introduced new keyboard shortcuts per Slide Over e Split View.
The iPadOS home has finally been aligned with the changes introduced by Apple already in iOS 14 for their iPhones. Now on iPadOS it will be possible insert widgets within the various pages dedicated to apps and no longer only in the area dedicated to them. IPad users will finally be able to access App Library, the list of all installed apps divided by categories, and quickly hide or rearrange the pages of the Home.
They were also introduced new widgets with a grid size of 4 × 2 icons. These new large and spacious widgets designed specifically for iPad can show a lot of useful information thanks to the huge space they have available.
Notes are now integrated at the OS level with the functionality Quick Note, a quick and easy way to take notes wherever you are in the system. Whether browsing Safari or finding a restaurant on Yelp, users can call up Quick Note anywhere to jot down a thought and add links, providing an easy way to quickly get back to what they were doing.
Notes has also been updated with new ways to organize, collaborate and catalog information. Tags make it easier to categorize notes and find them quickly with an all-new Tag Browser and tag-based Smart Folders. For users working collaboratively via shared notes, mentions are a new way to notify collaborators, and a new Activities view shows recent updates in the note in question.
The new features in FaceTime, LiveText and profiles Focus they are inherited from iOS 15, we recommend reading our dedicated article to learn more about the topics in question. The application has also been added to iPadOS 15 Translate, full of important news as the company remembers:
“The Translate app comes to iPad with new features that make conversations easier and more natural. When using the Translate app, Auto Translate detects when someone is speaking and in what language, so users can converse naturally without having to tap a microphone button. For even more personal conversations, the face-to-face view allows two people to sit facing each other with the iPad between them and see the translations of the conversation from their point of view. Text can now be translated anywhere on the iPad by selecting it and tapping Translate, and handwritten text can also be translated. Combined with Live Text, users can also translate text in photos“.
One of the most important news, however, concerns perhaps Swift Playground. With Swift Playgrounds 4, users have the tools for build applications for iPhone and iPad directly on your tablet, and then send them directly to the App Store.
The code is immediately reflected in thelive preview while building apps and users can run their apps in full screen to test them. A new open project format based on Swift packages can be modified in Swift Playgrounds for iPad as well as within Xcode on Mac, giving users even more versatility to develop applications on iPad and Mac.
The iPads starting this fall will become even more powerful and feature-rich, we can’t wait to experience first-hand all the innovations introduced by Apple in iPadOS 15 as soon as the beta is available.
