The day after is very difficult. Death at just 28 years of Michele Merlo, former competitor of Friends, left an immense emptiness and a great dismay. Struck by a fulminant form of leukemia, the singer struggled for a few days between life and death in intensive care. And his family cannot rest because Michele, after the first symptoms, had gone to the hospital. His father Domenico a The rest of the Carlino entrusts all his anger and resentment saying that “he went to the Vergato hospital and was sent home without even a medical report.” In fact, Merlo arrives at the Bologna hospital in very serious condition with acerebral hemorrhage caused by fulminant leukemia. The boy, on the night between Thursday and Friday, undergoes an emergency operation. But Sunday night he can’t do it. He died very young. There fulminant leukemia that killed Michele is a serious pathology but from which if caught in time it is cured in 95% of cases. Michele/Mike Bird unfortunately he has returned to the 5% who cannot make it, and it is to be understood how much the possible negligence of the emergency room doctors has weighed.
Now many doubts remain. Too many questions. “This story has many shadows, on which we want to be shed light”, says father Domenico. Meanwhile, from journalistic sources it is learned that the Ausl has launched an internal investigation. News that certainly does not change anything: no one will be able to bring a talented boy like Michele back to life. And his family announces battle. “We will certainly start an investigation: I have already contacted the lawyers and we intend to file a complaint. There are a lot of shadows and we want clarity “, he tells Il Resto del Carlino.
According to Domenico Merlo’s version it would be medical malpractice (a hypothesis, obviously, to be verified in the appropriate places). “On Wednesday afternoon my son was at the Vergato hospital and, as he later told us, there was practically only him, as a patient. Yet, the doctor who welcomed him allegedly told him not to clog the hospitals for a sore throat and two plaques. Instead my son, in addition to plaques, fever and sore throat, had a terrible headache, nosebleed and bruises on the body “, says Domenico. Michele, after the visit to the emergency room, would have reached his girlfriend (who lives in a fraction of Marzabotto).
“Things got worse, until the crisis on Thursday evening. And the stormy intervention of 118 …”, explains Domenico. He announces the appeal to the lawyers. “The team of Dr. Carlo Coniglio and the entire tenth floor of the Major were fabulous. They apologized for the treatment they had given us. We have already had two meetings with the director of the department to take stock of the situation. We want to see if this could have been avoided. Therefore we will also ask for an autopsy on Michele’s body to be ordered. Then we can think about the funeral and give him the last farewell ”, concludes Michele Merlo’s father.
