A few days after the start of the 2020 European football championship, postponed last year due to the pandemic emergency, here is the first positive at Covid: it is a big one since we are talking about Sergio Busquets, captain of Spain and Barcelona, who had to leave the Roja retreat. But the case has already broken out as there are fears of a possible outbreak in the Iberian national team which canceled tomorrow’s friendly match with Lithuania which will be played by the Spanish Under 21 team. Busquets was found positive yesterday in the test made on the rest day: the captain in recent days gave two interviews and played in the friendly against Portugal, which he now hopes not to have infected.
The others are negative
The other players of the national team coached by Luis Enrique are all negative at the moment, but the incubation has different times and at the moment it is not possible to exclude new cases of positivity. At the sports center in Las Rozas, Luis Enrique must question everything a week after his debut against Sweden. The former Barcelona coach has called up 24 players and not 26, and can replace Busquets until Sunday. Today new tests for everyone, with the hope that they will continue to be negative. Preparation was however compromised.
Vaccinated players: we run for cover
Why weren’t Spain’s footballers vaccinated? There is controversy on the subject: the Federation had asked to have their players vaccinated, but the Ministry of Health had said no, denying preferential treatment to the players, treatment however granted to athletes who go to the Olympics, including players. Now we are moving towards an inevitable reverse: from the Government comes the green light for vaccination for all the components of the national team who should be immunized with the Johnso & Johnson single-dose.
