Florence, June 7, 2021 – Una Florentine couple is blocked from yesterday to Manila, in the Philippines, where she had arrived a few weeks ago to rejoin the adopted child, result positive to Covid. Precisely because of the child’s positivity to the swab, performed before boarding the flight that was supposed to bring them back to Italy, the three are in quarantine at the hotel. The two parents, Elisabetta and Francesco, arrived in Manila on 21 May last. After 10 days of isolation, on June 1st they were finally able to meet their 8-year-old son. They spent a few days together, even if, precisely because of the pandemic emergency, less than expected.
Then yesterday, before the start, the positive test arrived. Now they are in a hotel, at their own expense and separated, with the risk of having contracted the coronavirus too. Their first-born, entrusted to their grandfather, is waiting for them in Florence. The couple has released a press release in which they ask that Italy take charge of their case and that they can return them with special and emergency procedures.
The two parents let it be known that they have already made contact with the Italian embassy in Manila, the Crisis Unit, the Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, the minister of the family Elena Bonetti, and with some authorities of their city of origin. Also in the document it is specified how Francesca had asked the Tuscany Region last April – the day after knowing that the procedures for adoption had been unblocked – to be able to anticipate the anti Covid vaccine in view of the trip to Manila to go and get son, but obtaining a refusal.
The case recalls that of the couple from Campi Bisenzio who got stuck in India before being able to return home.
