CURTATONE. A little over a year ago they launched a unique service of its kind: to send a comment to the Gospel every morning on Whatsapp, to those who request it. It was born among a group of faithful, then with word of mouth the service has expanded. Then came the pandemic. Everyone in the house, closed churches, no sociability.
And the idea of the Poor Clares of San Silvestro has expanded dramatically, the few hundred subscribers have become thousands, from Whatsapp the nuns have been forced to move to the Telegram platform, easier to manage mailing lists. But the success of the initiative at this point became unmanageable. The members have become six thousand and the cloistered nuns are no longer able to follow him: preparing the comment every day and responding to personal requests: impossible.
Thus, pending further measures, the service was interrupted. Thus, on May 31, a message sent by the monastery arrived on the mobile phones of all members explaining that the service will be suspended: «Peace and good! Following changes within our fraternity, we temporarily suspend the sending of the reflection on the Gospel of the day. We will try to resume this service as soon as possible, perhaps with the help of some external collaborator. We thank you for the fidelity with which you have followed us until today. The Lord always bless you “
Too many members, too many burdens for the few – there are only seven – poor Sisters of Santa Chiara.
Furthermore, the mother superior, Sister Giovanna Zangoli who had picked up the idea of the parish priest Don Cristian Grandelli to give life to this service and had started it with enthusiasm, she will soon leave San Silvestro and will be transferred to the monastery of Ferrara.
Now Don Cristian himself is looking for collaborators to take him back. Meanwhile, 6 thousand faithful are waiting.
