Toyota double at the Rally Italia Sardegna: Sébastien Ogier took his third win of the season, thanks to one of his best career performances, ahead of teammate Elfyn Evans. Hyundai was also on the podium, thanks to Belgian Thierry Neuville.
Ogier’s masterpiece. As always, the Rally Italia Sardegna gave a fascinating and spectacular race. Sébastien Ogier immediately made it clear that he had the potential to dominate as early as Friday, when he finished the first day in third position despite the disadvantageous starting position. On Saturday he easily managed to take the lead and today he completed the job, managing his lead in the last four stages. “This is an incredible weekend for us, we didn’t expect such a performance in Sardinia, the double is a fantastic result for the team,” said the winner. “I am satisfied because we were able to find a better feeling with the car and react after Portugal. Too bad for the Power Stage, we made a small mistake, but we still got two bonus points which are good for the ranking. If we manage to maintain this pace, we can be confident ”.
Hyundai loses ground. Small satisfaction also for the very young Kalle Rovanpera who won the three bonus points thanks to the best time in the Power Stage, after being forced to stop on Friday due to a technical problem while he was in second position. Thanks also to these points, Toyota now has a 49-point advantage over Hyundai: a nice nest egg that puts its opponents to the test. Hyundai must necessarily change pace: today it had to settle for third place in Neuville, who is still mathematically fighting for the championship, but if things do not change from the next appointment, Ogier will have a much easier life.
