Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez won the Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix, the sixth of the 2021 World Championship. Second and third places were Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin and Pierre Gasly of Alpha Tauri. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished fourth after starting the Grand Prix from pole position.
In the final laps, it was a very eventful Grand Prix. Max Verstappen was leading until a few laps to go but retired following an accident. The race was then suspended for several minutes, after which – with two laps to go – the cars restarted from the starting grid. At that point, Lewis Hamilton, a Mercedes driver who was in second position, went long in the first corner and finished the race without scoring points.
Not having scored points neither Hamilton nor Verstappen, leading by a wide margin on third, Verstappen continues to be first in the World Championship with 105 points, four more than Hamilton.
