Fight against Covid: the vaccination campaign continues in Italy: they are 37,671,984 the doses of vaccine administered to date in Italy (according to the report of the extraordinary commissioner Francesco Figliuolo updated to this morning). But how long does vaccine protection last? The most recent data for an inclusive period between 105 and 112 days from first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, suggest “protracted protection over time”. This is indicated by the second report drawn up by the ‘Surveillance working group
Covid-19 vaccines’ of Higher Institute of Health (Iss) and Ministry of Health, which updates that of 15 May last and also this result of the joint analysis of the data from the national vaccine registry and the integrated Covid-19 surveillance.
“From 105-112 days after vaccination – the report reads – it is observed a further reduction in the risk of diagnosis, with a similar effect in men, women and people in different age groups. “The data confirm those found in the first report, relating to 13.7 million people vaccinated, with the risk of death decreasing by 95% and reducing the risk of being diagnosed and hospitalized in the ICU, respectively 80% and 90%. The new report, referring to about 14 million people vaccinated with at least one dose, comes to an assessment over 130 days after the first dose was administered. Compared to the previous report, in the population studied there was an increase in vaccinated subjects in the age group 40 years and over and there was an increase in vaccinations with Comirnaty (Pfizer / BioNTech) and Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) and the start of administration of the Janssen vaccine (Johnson & Johnson).
