“I have always been prudent, but by now the data are consolidated in the direction of a very marked reduction of new cases and what is most important, of serious or fatal forms of Covid”. So Franco Locatelli, president of the Higher Council of Health and coordinator of the Cts, in an interview with ‘La Repubblica’.
Have we reached the turning point? «I would say yes», Locatelli replies. “We can claim, as a system, that evidently the ‘reasoned risk‘with which the reopenings were planned was not as weak as some had assumed, ”Locatelli then underlines.
When asked if you risk a autumn return of the epidemic like last year, Locatelli replies: “I am clear in saying that, obviously continuing to have responsibility and prudence, next autumn will not be like what we experienced in 2020. To date we have 40% of the population who have had at least one vaccine dose and 21% for the entire vaccination cycle ».
And regarding theuse of the mask he underlines: «I understand people’s desire to free themselves from even a very symbolic object. A gradual path will have to be made, starting from outdoor contexts, where there are less risks of contagion, and then moving on to indoors. We still wait a month, a month and a half. By mid-July – he says – we will also address this aspect. I would like attention to remain more focused on completing the vaccination ».
