“I’m afraid she denounced us”.
It is one of the sentences picked up by the bugs in the Quarto barracks in Genoa and exchanged between Ciro Grillo and the three friends accused of the alleged rape.
At the end of August 2019, more than a month after the alleged rape complaint in the villa in Costa Smeralda, Ciro Grillo and his three friends are summoned to the barracks for the seizure of cell phones.
The four are made to sit in a room where some bugs have been placed that pick up their speeches.
A few sentences from which the concern about the videos shot and the photos taken that night and about what was written in chats with friends would transpire. In the days preceding Grillo junior, Emanuele Capitta, Vittorio Lauria and Francesco Corsiglia had had intense exchanges of messages.
The young people understand that that evening could become a problem for them: “I’m afraid that one denounced us”, say Lauria and Capitta. In the intercepted conversations there is also talk of “three against one”, a circumstance that would confirm the version of Corsiglia, who tried to distance himself from the investigation by claiming that he had had a “consenting” sexual relationship with the girl and then fell asleep before the alleged violence group.
The four always said that the student was consenting. A version reaffirmed by Ciro again last Monday in front of the carabinieri in Genoa, where he also said that the one in the obscene photos, taken while the student’s friend was sleeping, “was not me”.
Shortly before the expiry of the 20 days between the notice of closure of the investigation and the request for indictment, the lawyers of the four (lawyers Sandro Vaccaro, Enrico Grillo, Gennaro Velle, Romano Raimondo, Ernesto Monteverde and Mariano Mameli) asked the prosecutor of Tempio to hear David Enrique Byo Obando, the 21-year-old Norwegian the student had accused of rape the year before.
The prosecutors, however, did not hear him and could at this point be called to testify in the course of a possible trial.
