Milan, June 5th (Adnkronos) – In Milan, as in the rest of Italy, the 207th anniversary of the founding of the Carabinieri was celebrated this morning. The commander of the Lombardy legion, brigadier general Andrea Taurelli Salimbeni and the prefect Renato Saccone, accompanied by the provincial commander, brigadier general Iacopo Mannucci Benincasa, placed a laurel wreath at the monument to the fallen of the Ugolini barracks in Milan. A special thought was addressed to the families of soldiers who have died in service in recent months, including 5 who lost their lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the occasion, the balance of the last year was drawn up, which saw the employee departments engaged, in addition to traditional prevention tasks, with about 1,200 services projected daily on the territory and repression of crime, reporting to the judicial 12 months 273,436 crimes, of which 44,656 with known perpetrators, arresting about 7,100 people and deferring a further 51,000 to the state of freedom, in the fundamental work of assistance to the population, also following the serious pandemic that particularly affected Lombardy. An activity in which 158 soldiers were injured.
The launch of the vaccination campaign, in which, in close collaboration with the Lombardy Region, over 12,600 doses were administered to the carabinieri, also involved military health personnel of this legion, who had already provided the own support to health facilities and screening activities. During the ceremony, some awards were given to distinguished soldiers, also free from duty, in rescue actions, in contrasting predatory crime to the detriment of vulnerable groups, as well as in operations relating to workplace safety and environmental protection. Finally, a station commander was awarded, in recognition of the activity carried out and the proximity to the citizen constantly ensured by the 461 garrisons of the Arma present in Lombardy.
