“The restart and the return to Venezia from this year they were not a certainty. Then we had a lot of requests from the local economic community and also from Region Veneto and from Common from Venice”. Francesco Galietti is director of Clia Italia, the company that gathers about sixty companies of cruise. They are the anti-No Big Ships, the bearers of private interest in the fragility of Venice. Yet Galietti, who arrived for the first departure of Msg Orchestra, says: “Between us and Tommaso Hunt there is no big difference, there are more points in common between us than you think… ”. Meanwhile, the city is growing voltage, also because they are scheduled for the afternoon of June 5th two manifestations opposed. At Zattere the No Grandi Navi with theirs barchini, intending to stop the vessel 300 meters long and 60 meters high. To the Danieli port employees, who ask for employment and economic recovery.
Let’s start with politics. Did the governor Luca Zaia and the mayor Luigi Brugnaro really ask you personally to return?
Of course, but not only them, the entire economic community of Venice has done it.
How can he say he is in tune with the No Grandi Navi?
Both we and them are asking for a definitive solution.
But you want to get to Venice, they want you out of the lagoon.
We are not incaponito to go to the Giudecca canal, indeed we too like them do not want to go to the Giudecca. Unfortunately, in recent years we have witnessed the volatility of politics. Rome and Venice have not always seen things in the same way. We ask politics to give us a valid alternative. Let’s wait to see the options on the table. The solutions are not there yet.
In the meantime?
We are happy with the ‘widespread approaches’, I am referring to Fusina, Tiv, Vecon and Marghera Nord, which, however, are currently inadequate for cruising. But it is the only way to decongest the Giudecca.
The government project, adopted by Parliament law, provides for the offshore, off the Lido, a hypothesis that foresees who knows how many years to be built.
Who said it’s at the Lido? In these years of projects I have seen many, in different points. We have expressed our negative opinion on the Duferco-De Piccoli project, because it is dangerous, with safety problems, in a point where there are strong currents. We await the competition of ideas wanted by the Draghi government. Only when we see the proposals will we be able to evaluate them.
But don’t you think it’s a mess to let the Grandi Navi enter a fragile environment like the Venetian ecosystem?
There is no perfect squaring and we are disappointed by the absence of proposals from politics. But we believe it is possible to enter the Lagoon safely.
