“Wherever I go I feel the weight of the skeptical, prejudiced, disgusted, frightened glances of people on my shoulders like a boulder”: these are the words of Seid Visin, 20, who took his own life yesterday.

The boy, born in Ethiopia, was adopted in Italy, as a child, in Nocera Inferiore. He had played in the Milan youth teams, together with Donnarumma, and also wore the Benevento shirt, as well as that of Atletico Vitalica, a five-a-side football team.

Some time ago the boy had written a letter sent to some friends. His words are dramatic: “I am not an immigrant – we read – I was adopted as a child .. I was able to find a

work that I had to leave because too many people, especially the elderly, refused to be served by me and, as if I did not already feel uncomfortable, they also pointed to me as responsible because many young Italians cannot find work. Something has changed inside me, as if I was ashamed of being black, as if I was afraid of being mistaken for an immigrant, as if I had to show people that they didn’t know me that I was like them, that I was Italian, white. I made bad jokes about blacks and immigrants, as if to point out that I wasn’t one of them. But it was fear. The fear of the hatred I saw in people’s eyes towards immigrants. I do not want to beg for commiseration or pain, but only to remind myself that the discomfort and suffering I am experiencing are a drop of water compared to the ocean of suffering that those who prefer to die rather than lead an existence in misery and in ‘hell. Those people who risk their lives, many have already lost it, just to smell, to taste, the flavor of what we simply call ‘life’ “.

“I met Seid as soon as I arrived in Milan, we lived together in a boarding school, a few years have passed but I can’t and I don’t want to forget that incredible smile of his, that joy of life. He was a friend, a boy like me”, said Gigio Donnarumma .

“A country that pushes a young boy to make such an extreme gesture is a country that has failed”. This is the comment of the former Juve Claudio Marchisio. “We all suck a little. Center, right, left “.
