The two had crossed paths in the Milan youth teams: “He was a friend, a boy like me”
“I met Seid as soon as I arrived in Milan, we lived together in a boarding school, a few years have passed but I can’t e I don’t want to forget that incredible smile of hers, that joy of life“. Gianluigi Donnarumma, goalkeeper of the national team, tells the Ansa the pain for a traveling companion lost too soon: “He was a friend, a boy like me“. The two had crossed paths in the youth academy of Milan.
For about three years, from 2014 to 2016, the two lived in close contact in the boarding school for the children of the Milan nursery, a large hotel on the outskirts of Milan, admiring on the walls near the dining room the framed shirts of the young people who had managed to make their debut in the first team, dreaming of emulating them. Donnarumma made it, taking an early leap that brought him to the blue, while the epilogue of his friend was dramatic, with whom he also shared the origins of Campania.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper was in fact born in Castellamare di Stabia, about twenty kilometers from Nocera Inferiore, where the family who adopted Seid, from Ethiopia, lived at the age of 7. “We have faced together all the difficulties of those who leave their family at the age of 14 and their home to pursue a dream – continued Donnarumma, born a year before Seid and used to always play with higher category teams in the youth teams -. In recent years we had lost sight of but this news affects me deeply. For me he was a friend, a boy like me. In this dramatic moment I cling to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace”.
