Rome, 5 June 2021 – Full traffic closure of Via dei Fori Imperiali, still open to the passage of buses and taxis, on an experimental basis once a month and creating a new one pedestrian route from the Forums to the Termini Station, passing through the Monti district.
It is the idea of the Capitoline junta to redesign within the month of July 2021 circulation in the heart of Roma. A series of infrastructures will also contribute to the new traffic structure of the capital in the future, such as the project for a tram line that will pass through the Imperial Forums and the extension of metro C to Piazza Venezia.
The Municipality: “Free up more and more areas for pedestrians and cyclists”
“We experience this pedestrianization at least for one weekend a month, substantially by extending events such as ViaLibera to Saturdays, thus increasing the spaces dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, in the name of active and sustainable mobility “, commented the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.
The junta aims to extend to pedestrian and cycle use a growing number of areas with historical, archaeological and architectural value of the capital, starting from the central area of the Forums: “Our goal is to gradually arrive at a new structure due to the Imperial Forums, also experimenting with the alternatives of viability and public transport with which the city will have to be ready for the start of the construction of the trams and the meter C on Piazza Venezia ”, added the deputy mayor Pietro Calabrese.
