After arriving within one centimeter of the cancellation of the 2021 edition of the Salone del Mobile (measurable in the last minute intervention of the President of the Republic), Federlegno Arredo abandons the project of the new headquarters at Portello, climbing up positions in the list of priorities due to Sars-Cov-2. In the wake of the pandemic, the powerful Design association has decided to set aside the hypothesis of a move from the current offices of the center in foro Buonaparte to the more modern terraces of the external circle, in the current parking lot in viale Scarampo, between the fair and Citylife. But the author’s architecture, designed (and revised) by Michele De Lucchi for Fondazione Fiera, will be made, and has already received a positive opinion from the landscape commission. With its 90-meter tower, future conference hotel, and with its base building intended for Fla’s orphaned offices. Only the tenant will change.
The Fiera al Portello Foundation project
Just yesterday FIn fact, the Fiera has published an announcement to collect expressions of interest relating to the part of the management complex that should have housed the headquarters of the Furniture, a plan dear to the previous management of industrialists and presented with great fanfare in November 2019 by the then president Emanuele Orsini (who spoke of a showcase of know-how), by the former top of the Salone Claudio Luti (who would have moved the offices here) and by the Milanese and Lombard institutions. The renderings have been updated, the official change of course, a new page of Milan that changes skin, between Citylife, the Mico congress center, Casa Milan and the surrounding real estate projects, above all the yellow tower of 70 meters called Aurora di Borio Mangiarotti and the bottom Vrde.
There are many symbolic elements on those 6 thousand square meters land (for 15 thousand GFA), between the high-flow avenue and the Masseroni Marchese sports center, overlooking the pavilions of the fair protagonists of the news as vaccination hub and future Rai studios, opposed by the governor of Lazio Nicola Zingaretti, after years of ghost projects, not least the AC Milan stadium in the Barbara Berlusconi era. A pedestrian bridge will cross the avenue to connect to the tree-lined pedestrian path above the pavilions, from Piazza Gino Valle to the Citylife park, as foreseen in the project that took over from that of the Rossoneri stadium, the greenway of Vitale, also wrecked after the dispute over the costs of reclamation.
The land is part of the former urban hub of the fair, 124 thousand square meters united in the Fiera program agreement (integrated in 2014), which allows the construction of 56 thousand square meters of GFA for non-residential functions. Federlegno’s replacement is to be found in the context of a Milan that has a thirst for avant-garde executive spaces, as demonstrated by the landing of multinationals in the city, from Romolo to the Scalo Romana, despite the pandemic cyclone. The tower will be a hotel center, a congress reference point for the Mico, with about 180 rooms on 21 floors (and a digital piano in agreement with Samsung), which will be operated either directly or through a tenant as happened with Nh at the Rho-Pero fair. Federlegno’s renunciation allows us to look at the market – explains the president of the Fondazione Fiera Enrico Pazzali -: we are open to innovative solutions of various kinds.
