In all regions there is a great demand for vaccination by young people but there is the unknown factor of the second dose which will arrive in the height of summer and which risks being massively postponed by the under 30s, and by all those who are in holiday. The regional presidents push for enlargement and in the end they manage to pass in the State-Regions Conference a document developed by President Massimiliano Fedriga which authorizes inoculations in a region other than their own but exceptionally and with the obligation to communicate to the Asl the successful administration of the second dose.
Mix of vaccines against Covid, Popoli (Aifa): “Interesting option, but data is lacking”. What do virologists say?
Since the second dose can be done in a fairly long time, it is up to General Figliuolo, commissioner for the emergency, to explain the method to be followed: «The first thing to do is to be flexible in bookings. We know that RNA vaccines give the possibility to administer the second dose within 42 days, in that range you have to be flexible, as well as between 4 and 12 weeks with the AstraZeneca vaccine ». That is, those who know they have to go on vacation for a couple of weeks have the time to organize the date of the second dose, bearing in mind the large time frame within which it can be done. Consequently, those who stay for a short time are excluded from the possibility.
“We are fully available and we will ensure that the logistics will be able to run and be flexible, and therefore give the possibility to meet the needs of our citizens”, continues Figliuolo who in the end shares the line of the regional presidents.
Restaurants, outdoor tables and 6-person roof indoors. Pressing Regioni: “Eliminate the limits in the yellow zone”
In fact, only those staying for a long time can be vaccinated for the second dose and to book they will have to do it on the site of the region where they are on vacation by choosing the dose of the vaccine already inoculated. It will be up to the region to evaluate the requests and possibly communicate the date and place of administration to the “vaccinating person” via email or text message. The signed document includes not only vacationers but also seasonal workers who move from the region in the summer and who may have made the first dose in the region to which they belong.
Vaccinations for minors also start. The directive that the general sent to the regional administrations asks “to implement, as per the therapeutic indications of Aifa, the extension of vaccination” to those belonging to the “age group 12-15 years, using dedicated lines in the vaccination hubs and making the widest use of free choice pediatricians ». The goal is to cover by September, therefore in time for the start of the school year, even the under 15. In all, two million and three hundred thousand very young people who will be vaccinated using pediatricians. “The vaccination of the 12-15 group is important and even if it is not compulsory it is highly recommended – explains Figliuolo – I tell parents to get close to science and vaccination completely because it will be very useful for the opening of schools”.
From the data provided by Commissioner Figliuolo it emerges that over 90-95% of the doses distributed were administered. A very positive result which confirms the functioning of the machine, but which also reveals some problems in the arrival of vaccines. “Sometimes the influx is not constant and uniform”, admits Figliuolo who announces the arrival by today of one million and 700 thousand Astrazeneca, 400 thousand Moderna “and then, from 8-9 onwards, further Moderna, Johnson, again 3 will arrive. million Pfizer, so the projections I have bring me to 20 million. Then it is clear, if we had had 40 million doses it would have been better, but with 20 million, considering that we have already inoculated 23 and a half million first doses, so even if only half are first doses, we reach 35 million on an audience of 54 million. I therefore believe that at the end of June we can be even safer ». Furthermore, there is the problem of dispersion also denounced by Figliuolo who estimates that “two million and one hundred and seventy thousand people over 60 who have not yet been vaccinated”.
In Tuscany, in addition to the under 30s, they also vaccinate on the farm. The first to receive the vaccine will be the cashiers of large retailers, then technicians, workers and many other workers, together with first degree relatives (even if they do not live together) and cohabitants.
