The designer explains what inspired him to design the clothes that the Azzurri will wear for the European Championship, starting with the homage to the 1982 world champion coach
It is a tribute to Enzo Bearzot, the legendary coach of Italy 1982 world champion. A mix that combines the authentically Italian style with the essential lines and details that have made Giorgio Armani a legend. It is the designer himself who tells us why he decided to design the uniforms of Italy for the European Championship which begins on 11 June in exactly that way. A uniform welcomed with some social irony, but which for Armani is a pride and a wish for the national team.
“I am proud to dress our national team in this moment of restart, and in such an important championship – said Armani, who signed a collaboration contract with the FIGC in 2019 that sees the designer designing formal wardrobes for the senior national team, ‘Under 21 and Italdonne -. I worked on an idea of spontaneous and sporty elegance, with an authentic spirit. I imagined a light dress but full of dignity, how dignified and proud our spirit must be at this moment ”. The uniform consists of the light blue-white jacket with mandarin collar, in light seersucker cotton with a creased effect, and soft black trousers.
The federation is enthusiastic about the new kit. ““ I thank Armani – said the president Gabriele Gravina – because he managed to design a suit capable of combining and enhancing three fundamental characteristics of this young, elegant and determined national team. His style is perfectly combined with the imprint given to the Azzurri by coach Mancini ”.
