Alitalia does not have the cash to pay the second tranche of May salaries. It is one of the three commissioners of the airline in extraordinary administration, Gabriele Fava, to say this during the hearing in the Budget Committee of the Chamber. “A 50% was paid on May 28, but unfortunately for the other 50% we are not yet able to do so because we are waiting to have visibility on the crediting times of the 100 million euro loan in order to follow up on the payments” , explains Fava.
Payments in installments for the third consecutive month
The 100 million – provided for in the Sostegni bis decree for Alitalia’s business continuity – has not yet been paid into the coffers of theairline which expected to pay the second half of May salaries by 5 June. “We need this injection of liquidity not only to guarantee salaries but also all the other ancillary services to the maintenance of Alitalia’s business at the moment,” Fava emphasizes. For the third consecutive month, the company’s employees find themselves being paid late and in installments.
«Delays unacceptable for the unions
Fava’s words sparked the unions. “Failure to pay the remaining 50% of the salary is unacceptable,” wrote Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Ta in a joint note. The acronyms ask that “the government does everything necessary to immediately credit the 100 million in favor of Alitalia in extraordinary administration”. “It is not the first time that these unacceptable delays have occurred – continue the unions -. The workers continue to operate and fly professionally, guaranteeing business continuity and the country’s connectivity service ». “Also in the light of this unfortunate delay – they conclude – we confirm the national strike of June 18, which will be followed by others if concrete solutions are not found for the workers. Finally conclude Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Ta.
