The US has announced that it will impose tariffs on six countries, including Italy, in response to their taxes on US tech companies, but will suspend levies for six months to negotiate an international resolution. The Wall Street Journal writes it. In addition to Italy, the measure also affects the United Kingdom, Austria, India, Spain and Turkey.
US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said investigations found the tariffs were justified because of the digital services taxes imposed on US companies by the UK, Austria, India, Italy, Spain and Turkey. But at the same time he said tariffs will be suspended as the US focuses on finding “a multilateral solution to a number of key issues relating to international taxation.”
