ISS report: one third of Covid deaths are Lombard
In a new investigation into coronavirus-related deaths, the ISS found that the 28.4% were registered in Lombardy. It is in this region, which is also the one with the largest number of inhabitants, “the highest share of deaths is concentrated since the beginning of the pandemic”, Explained the Institute of the Ministry of Health.
The share was much higher in the period between March and May 2020, that of the first wave, in which Lombard deaths were 47.7% of the Italian total.
In the period of the second wave (still ongoing, from October 2020 to March 2021) “the dead in Lombardy are equal to 19% of the Italian total“. In total the Lombard deaths are 30,341. Others follow Central-north regions: Emilia Romagna (11%), Veneto (9.8%), Piedmont (8.7%). Other populous regions follow such as Lazio, Campania, Tuscany and Sicily.
Covid, ISS: one in 100 deaths was under the age of 50
In addition to the regional distribution, the ISS also analyzed the Italian deaths from Covid-19 based on age groups, thus discovering that, as of March 30, 2021, there are 1,188 out of 106,789 patients deceased under the age of 50.
Of these, 282 were between the ages of 0 and 39: 172 men and 110 women.
No clinical information is available on 80 of the patients under 40 years of age. Of the others, 164 had severe pre-existing medical conditions, such as cardiovascular, renal, psychiatric, diabetes, or obesity. Thirty-eight, on the other hand, had no diagnosed significant pathology.
The average age of patients who died and positive for SARS-CoV-2, according to the ISS, is 81 years, of which 43.9% are women.
