Summer 2021 in Milan: the summer school is back

Summer 2021 in Milan at the gates with a great desire for relaxation and fun, especially among young people. Palazzo Marino has also decided to be there for the summer of 2021 by launching the Milan Summer School, an initiative of the Municipality of Milan to collect the city’s offer of playful-recreational activities dedicated to girls and boys, girls and boys in Milan during the summer months. The Municipality wants to expand the possibility of access to territorial initiatives, thus supporting families in their reconciliation needs and offering an opportunity for the little ones to recover the moments of sociality and leisure that, again this year, they had to give up due to restrictions due to the pandemic situation.

In the Summer school schedule, public and private initiatives dedicated to girls and boys aged between 0 and 14 can be collected: those organized directly by the Municipality of Milan at school locations and their own holiday homes, those carried out by private concessionaires municipal sports facilities or cultural and social structures, from Milanosport at their sports centers, from public and private educational, cultural and sporting realities, from oratories and other private institutions that request it.

Managers will be able to join the Milan Summer School schedule by participating in a public notice that will be launched in the coming weeks, indicating the type of proposal offered and the methods of access and registration to the services. They may also provide for access quotas to free services or to controlled rates. In that case it will be the Administration, through the network of local social services, to report families in conditions of particular economic and social fragility.

The initiatives of the Milano Summer school – which will be held in the period between 14 June and September, compatibly with the start of the school calendars – will be summarized in a map of the city on which interested families will be able to identify the offer that, by proposal, interest and location, better responds to their needs. The Municipality undertakes to promote the activities that will be included in the schedule. Exceptional testimonial of the initiative will be Geronimo Stilton, the journalist mouse most loved by children all over the world who, for years now, has been the protagonist of various educational projects.

“For the second consecutive year – declares the Councilor for Education and Youth Policies Laura Galimberti – the Municipality calls together the realities of the private sector to compose a catalog of summer offers dedicated to the youngest Milanese. An appeal to which the Administration adheres first through the initiatives put in place thanks to the commitment and collaboration of various departments, from education to sports, from culture to social policies. Occasions for recreation and socializing as widespread as possible in the area that will allow boys, girls, girls and boys to experience a carefree and serene summer in the city, accompanying them towards a new-found normality, always in compliance with safety regulations “.

In fact, not only the summer sections dedicated to children in infant-toddler centers and preschools and the summer centers for primary school children will take place in the Milan Summer School, but other activities are also planned, financed by the Administration.

With a resolution approved this morning, the council has allocated resources for 250 thousand euros to be assigned, through a public notice, to third sector entities to expand the offer of summer centers aimed at the 6-16 year-olds, paying particular attention to the realities that they operate in the popular districts beyond the 90/91 ring road and, above all, in areas with a strong presence of public houses. Participants must present a project describing the activity that will take place outdoors, in the courtyards of popular condominiums or in green areas, parks, school courtyards. The municipal resources will be used to finance all the initiatives activated in the artistic, cultural, sports, entertainment and aggregative fields. The popular summer camps – which will be completely free for participants – will last one month and will have to take place in the period between 21 June and 10 September, for 4 hours a day, from Monday to Friday, and will be aimed at homogeneous age groups. (from 6 to 11 years, from 11 to 14, between 14 and 16 years). The offer will be further enriched in the coming weeks by other initiatives carried out in collaboration with the third sector.

“Last year – recalls the councilor for social and housing policies Gabriele Rabaiotti – we started with a pilot project that met with great success, carrying out many initiatives in twenty courtyards of social housing, both in the Municipality and in Aler. This year we decided to strengthen it by making more resources available and trying to articulate the offer, convinced that in this delicate moment for the city, new opportunities for closeness and proximity to the houses we live in must be imagined and built “.

The Council also approved the guidelines for organizing trips and stays in the holiday homes of the Municipality of Milan: the “Summer Vacation” project, dedicated to minors aged 6 to 14, provides for the possibility of participating in educational stays lasting 12 days at the municipal facilities of Ghiffa and Vacciago, with an active service from 5 July to 27 August, for a total of 4 shifts. Given the need to reduce the capacity of the holiday homes to comply with anti-contagion protocols, the Municipality will integrate the offer with the purchase of places in two structures in Bardonecchia and Marina di Massa. This will make it possible to accommodate over a thousand minors, in groups differentiated by age. Applications to participate in the stays will open on 11 May.

With the “Out of the ordinary” initiative, however, the Municipality will consider organizing day trips – which include recreational activities and excursions – to holiday homes, dedicated to minors aged 6 to 14, accompanied by the educational staff of the holiday homes or by a familiar. An initiative already appreciated last year, in the months of July and August, which will involve the houses of Ghiffa, Vacciago and Zambla Alta and can be extended to other locations, based on the epidemiological situation.
