LECCE – Having disposed of the potentially distorting effect of the two consecutive holidays (1 and 2 May), the data from the regional epidemiological bulletin remain quite reassuring: the trend is towards containing the infection. 1,028 swabs tested positive, of which 196 in the province of Lecce. L’incidence, as regards the regional scope, is of 188 new cases every 100 thousand inhabitants in seven days, while that relating to Salento is 153, still increasing: from week to week the gap decreased.
The number of beds occupied in Apulian hospitals decreases: today 1,782 people are hospitalized, 30 less than yesterday’s figure. In the ICU there were 11 new entrants, for a total of 197 patients. 34 deaths were recorded, of which six were residents in the province of Lecce, while the number of those recovered increased by 1,407. The current number of Covid cases in Puglia is now 46,620.
Asl Lecce has meanwhile given new provisions with the aim of achieving the objectives that yesterday the Puglia Region reiterated for the month of May, based on the indications given by the national commissioner, General Figliuolo, and by civil protection: coverage with at least one dose of 95 percent for over 80s (for 15 May), 85 percent for citizens aged 70 to 79 (for 15 May).
At the same time, the completion of vaccinations is urged for extremely fragile people, for those with rare diseases and for the severely disabled, taken in charge by general practitioners or by specialist centers in the case of their patients. Having reached those percentages, it will recover with the 60-69 age group with the goal of 75 percent coverage as of May 31.
As for the over 80, from Thursday to next Tuesday, all those who have received the first Pfizer dose for at least 21 days can go for the recall at the reference hubs. General practitioners will have to take care of those who are on an integrated home care regime. To date, 53,300 people over eighty have received at least the first dose and about 35,000 also the second.
From tomorrow, Wednesday, to next Tuesday the citizens among the 70 and 79 years old who have not yet received the vaccine, who have not booked an appointment or have skipped it, can directly access the hubs of the districts in which they reside, until the doses are exhausted. The vaccination centers are open from 8 to 14 and from 15 to 21. 61 thousand citizens of this age group have received the first dose and about 4 thousand have completed the vaccination.
