Manchester City had been waiting for a final in a European cup for 51 years. After 51 years Pep Guardiola brings for the first time in its history the Citizens in the Champions League final beating Paris Saint Germain 2-0 in the second leg, after a 2-1 success at the Parco dei Principi in the first leg. The City has substantially deserved the passage of the round showing in addition to the usual dribbling skills and offensive qualities also one solid defense impossible to unhinge in the Etihad match by a PSG orphan of Mbappé remained on the bench for the entire match due to a contracture in a calf. Pochettino’s team tried to make life hard for the hosts by playing a very intense first half of the first half, touching the equal goal (after Mahrez’s advantage) with Marquinhos who hit the crossbar. As the minutes went by, City’s quality of play came out, tempers overheated and at 2-0 (Mahrez doubled again) and after Di Maria was sent off, there was no more story. Guardiola now awaits the winner of Chelsea-Real Madrid.

Having to do without Mbappé, Pochettino chooses Icardi as a forward from 1 ‘, line up Diallo on the left and puts in Herrera in place of the suspended Gueye. Guardiola proposes Fernandinho instead of Rodri e Zinchenko on the left and confirms the anomalous trident with Bernardo Silva ‘false nine’ with ai lati De Bruyne e Foden. PSG starts very well, forcing the City on the defensive but at the first lunge Guardiola’s team passes: great reading of Ederson which sees in depth Zinchenko, back ball for De Bruyne, first shot countered with ball a Mahrez who leaves no way out for Navas. After the goal, Pochettino’s team loses some certainty, close to par with a Marquinhos crossbar, but leaves room for the City that despite a field drenched with hail dropped before the game, he manages to show all his dribble qualities and at the end of the first half he has a double chance to double again with Mahrez and Bernardo Silva.

In the second half, City starts with a different attitude, is aggressive, settles consistently in the French half and tries to close the match. Pochettino runs for cover by entering Kean e Draxler but a perfect transition action of the City leads to the double: De Bruyne sends to the bottom Foden putting a golden ball on the far post where Mahrez is on time to the appointment with the ball and closes the games. The race takes a turn of nervousness that leads to do it on the sidelines of Di Maria on Fernandinho who costs the Argentine red. Forced in 10, PSG is no longer able to become dangerous, it is exposed to the incursions of the forward of the City. Foden hits a post, Mahrez touches the hat-trick and Guardiola grants space in the final also to Gabriel Jesus, Sterling e Aguero. Ends 2-0, City celebrates, will go to Istanbul to play the Champions League final, exactly 10 years after the last final played by Guardiola at the helm of Barcelona.
