Kidnapped and evacuated (operation in progress since dawn today), the illegal nomad camp at the intersection of via Bonfadini and via Zama, East area of Milan, then the settlement will be permanently removed (with the first demolition of the shacks, then of the brick houses, all illegal). The operation is the direct consequence ofinvestigation into illegal waste trafficking that the local police closed with 33 arrests, and which demonstrated, as Commander Marco Ciacci explains, that that field was the fundamental and nerve center of criminal activity.
Via Bonfadini, the eviction of the police in the illegal Roma camp
The investigation, which started in June 2020, was followed by the prosecutors Francesco De Tommasi and Sara Ombra, coordinated by the head of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate Alessandra Dolci, and revealed a dark and illegal waste disposal territory. The entrepreneurs (especially construction) instead of turning to the regular and more expensive disposal services, sent their trucks full of iron, oils, asbestos and other waste materials to via Bonfadini, where a group of workers was always active who took care of a census of the goods, to separate the part to be abandoned in the fields from that (especially the metal) from which instead it could be obtained an additional gain.
All the business (which according to the investigators’ estimates was around one million euros a year) was managed by Umberto Cirelli, 56 years old, who coordinated operations and received payments in cash immediately. At his side other men of the same historical Sinti family of Abruzzese origin: among 33 arrested, 6 (all Cirelli) lived in the field, the others are unskilled workers or entrepreneurs who made constant and continuous use of the illegal disposal organization. To these they were trucks and work vehicles used in traffic were also seized.
Local police investigations, through stalking and installation of hidden cameras, have also documented aextortion with the mafia method (an entrepreneur to whom the disposal was imposed in order not to have problems on the construction site) and a small one shop tour. From today the nomad camp in via Bonfadini-Zama under seizure and the demolition of illegal artifacts has begun – explained the mayor Giuseppe Sala and the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo -. This area was the base of a huge and dangerous illicit traffic of waste. This was discovered by the Local Police’s Territory Problems Unit which, in June 2020, launched a scrupulous investigation.
