Elena Baruti’s organs were donated. The eighteen-year-old girl who died at the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome where she had been hospitalized after being hit by a car three days ago, on Via Nomentana, had expressed her desire to be a donor two years ago. And today, thanks to her, six people can live again. This was announced by the Polyclinic itself. Six people have been implanted with the girl’s organs: heart, kidneys, liver and pancreas and who, the structure underlines, “will continue to live thanks to Elena’s generosity.” Donating organs is a gesture of love is the slogan that Elena Baruti, just sixteen, underlines the Polyclinic, «had made it come true by expressing her desire to be an organ donor».
It will remain a unique example – “Elena has proved to be a special girl – declares Fabrizio d’Alba, general manager of the Policlinico Umberto I – saddened and struck by her tragic death, I cannot help but express my admiration for her, a girl who at only 16 make a choice of absolute love and solidarity towards others. I want to express all my closeness and solidarity to her family and friends, keeping firmly in my heart the value and importance of what Elena has chosen ».
“Thanks to Elena, her generosity witnessed in the most tragic of circumstances will remain a unique example – he says – of organ donation as a moment of life”.
