The death toll from a collision between an overcrowded motorboat and a freighter on the Padma River in central Bangladesh is at least 26 dead. According to local authorities, rescuers recovered the bodies of three children, a woman and 22 men.
Official Mohammad Asaduzzaman explained that the speedboat with over 30 people on board hit the freighter at high speed and capsized into the water. Five people were rescued. The incident, on which an investigation has been opened, took place near the port of Kathalbari, more than 50 kilometers south of the capital Dhaka.
