Chaos in Sicily over the reopening of schools. The Sicilian mayors rebelled: they did not receive reliable data on the infections from Covid and so they decided to close the schools until Monday (the day of probable return), leaving the decision to teach in Dad to the schools. The administrators will decide with their own ordinances. The decision came from the ANCI assembly organized after the regional government’s decision to reopen schools tomorrow following the task force meeting. Already in the afternoon, in a controversial note with the regional councilor for education Roberto Lagalla, Anci Sicilia had highlighted “that it had denounced the lack of reliable data and that it had openly asked for the postponement of the opening of schools”.
The mayors had asked “to know the reliable data relating to the number of infected people municipality by municipality, their incidence on 100,000 inhabitants, the occupancy rate of beds in intensive care and medical areas together with the number of vaccinated people”.
The regional task force had established that from tomorrow, Thursday 13 January, the students will return to school. “There are no legal conditions to further suspend the teaching activities”, the regional councilor for training Roberto Lagalla said in the morning. In fact, the suspension of face-to-face lessons is only possible in the red and orange areas and in the cases provided for by the national decree. Conditions necessary but not sufficient to go to Dad as it takes the approval of the Asp. The regional school director, Stefano Suraniti and the national association of principals agree on the reopening.
