Anyone who has had to make do with an expensive DIY for years is thrilled. Those who, however, with the announced arrival of bright snow crystals or colored balls had built up so many expectations were disappointed. Because the Christmas lights, which this year had to light up many more suburbs than in previous years, worked intermittently. Palazzo Marino has counted at least 18 kilometers of decorations in the districts of the city “given away” by the same sponsors who have access to the 12 kilometers of central streets that, every year, we are used to seeing lit up for the party. A novelty, at least for the extension of the gold and silver threads in some streets often in the shade, which the traders welcomed with pleasure. Even if, as many point out, an organization a little more timely and better coordinated between the Municipality, financiers and shopkeepers, would have led to better results.
Giorgio Bugliesi, who represents the shop windows of the Niguarda district, is a bit perplexed: “Via Hermada, via Rotta and via Ornato were in the list drawn up by the municipality”, he explains. And so they lit up: “It is a pity, however, that via Ornato, for example, which is one of our main arteries, was decorated only in some places. Not only that, many colleagues were disappointed by the fact that they arrived to assemble the decorations. December 23. Now, no one asked to light the road up to Bresso, but something more could be done “. The idea, or the desire, for next year is this: “We need a control room among all the operators, to be set up in time, however, because this year’s announcement was a mess”.
In via Padova, where in recent years the most multi-ethnic district of the city has arranged with an exemplary collection between citizens and shopkeepers, this year Netflix has arrived: “We are grateful – smiles Davide Agricola, president of the traders in the area – because this ‘year the lights in via Padova are truly extraordinary “. Net, however, of a political controversy that had blocked the installation of the arches of light also in the first section, the one near Piazzale Loreto, where there is a greater concentration of foreigners. Resolved the dispute, in the end everything went smoothly. There is a question, however, that should not be underestimated: “Lighting is not enough to attract people, because this year, on Christmas Eve, there are those who have collected very little”. Therefore, we would also need “a communication campaign that brings shopping closer to neighborhood shops”. And if those who have a shop window in viale Monza, says Lucia Lamberto, this year were “very happy” to see “all the street lit up to the border with Sesto”, in piazzale Selinunte, in the popular district of San Siro, they didn’t even notice that it was Christmas: “Well, it doesn’t seem to me that the square has benefited from any benefit”, explains the hardware store. Indeed: “For two weeks we stayed even with the street lamps turned off and no one ever explained to us why”.
