Violence on the Milan-Varese line, petition launched for carriages reserved for women: “We want to travel safely”

Female-only carriages on trains for safe travel. After the double sexual assault on the railway line between Milan and Varese, which took place last Friday 3 December, an online petition was launched on to ask for a space exclusively dedicated to women on trains. Conceived by Greta Carla Achini, a woman from Malnate, it is entitled “We want to travel safely”. In a few hours, it has already reached 800 adhesions on an initial target of 1,000 signatures. The request is addressed to Trenord, a company that manages rail transport in Lombardy. The description reads:

“We have the right to use public transport at any time of the day without fear. In other countries, on the means of transport, including local ones, there are carriages dedicated only to female travelers. With this petition we ask Trenord to dedicate, on all its lines, the lead carriage to women. In this way, at any time, you can travel safely ».
