The 11-year-old boy with severe Covid pneumonia was extubated

Gone the anguish, finally. The 11-year-old child admitted to the Santobono hospital in Naples with severe Covid pneumonia and subsequently intubated in the intensive care unit directed by Dr. Geremia Zito Marinosci, was extubated, breathes spontaneously and is considered out of danger. This was announced by the general management of the Santobono-Pausilipon hospital.

Tomorrow he will celebrate, together with the staff of the department who have assisted him in these difficult days, the birthday that he was unable to celebrate precisely because of Covid. In the next few days, the little patient will be transferred to the complex Respiratory Physiopathology Unit of the Monaldi hospital, directed by Dr. Giuseppe Fiorentino, who supported the Santobono team in assistance, to continue with a respiratory rehabilitation program.

The 11-year-old was hospitalized in the pediatric hospital in via Mario Fiore, in the Arenella district, from the evening of 8 November. He had arrived at the hospital when he already had conditions considered serious by the doctors, to the point of making it impossible to transfer to the Cotugno hospital, which specializes in the treatment of infectious diseases. The 11-year-old’s condition had stabilized over the first 24 hours of hospitalization, prior to a sudden worsening of the general clinical picture that required orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation. Today the good news has arrived: he’s out of harm’s way.
