The reactions to the order of the mayor Gualtieri which provides for mandatory protections in crowded places in the center and in the Prati district for the entire Christmas period until 31 December
“Someone is making fun of us. He puts it on after our scolding and takes it off as soon as we turn around. Most of the Romans, however, are proving to be attentive and scrupulous ». Fabio is a volunteer of the Civil Protection and, in via del Corso at the corner with via dei Condotti, with his yellow bib he checks that all passers-by are wearing a mask. Nobody seems to get away with it. From ten o’clock yesterday morning the ordinance of the mayor Roberto Gualtieri is in force, which provides for mandatory masks in the crowded places in the center and in the Prati district for the entire Christmas period until 31 December. In order for the rule to be respected, in addition to the volunteers, traffic police and various police and Carabinieri patrols on the street: “No anomalies”, let the police know.
In fact, most of the citizens seem to agree with the provision: «I’m willing to take it home too. As long as they make us lead a normal life, there are no problems. As long as they don’t close us up, ”Rita says as she shows off her designer mask. “There are so many people and I would have brought them even if there hadn’t been the ordinance”, is the comment of Daniele, a man in his fifties who comes from Olbia. “I am here for my daughter, she is 5 years old, she suffers from some allergies and we took her to the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital. With my wife we decided to have her wear the mask too”. “As a pharmacist I think that’s right. We must not let our guard down, ”says Sofia. Meanwhile, two Carabinieri stop a boy on a scooter: “The obligation also applies to them.” However, not everyone is aware of the provision and someone comes to wonder: “Why, have we entered the yellow zone?” Then there are those who, in order not to wear it, smoke or eat a packet of chestnuts, and those who absolutely disagree like Saverio, a retired person: “I only have it because I respect the laws, but I find it a stupid rule that I don’t it makes no sense. Is Covid transmitted in via del Corso and not around the corner? ». “It is a useless measure because in the open air the risks are lowered a lot,” is the reply of his wife, who is also retired. The most undisciplined, however, seem to be the under 18s: “We are already forced to take her to class, now even when we go out”, say a group of fifteen-year-olds attending the Virgilio classical high school, their masks are all under the chin.
To avoid gatherings in Piazza del Popolo, the barriers have been mounted with an obligatory path. “At first glance it seems to have gone back a year. Let’s hope we don’t relive the same drama », comments a waiter from one of the bars in the square. In via Cola di Rienzo fewer people, but equally tight controls: “In general, the citizens seem to have understood the meaning of the order – says a traffic policeman -. Inevitably, there will be gatherings throughout the Christmas period and we will all have to be very careful ».
