In the sustainability report, attention also to workers

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 03 DEC – Attention to the environmental issue, in all stages of the supply chain, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This is what emerges from the presentation, at the Majestic hotel in Bologna, of the 2021 sustainability report of Conserve Italia, the Bolognese consortium that deals with food processing made up of 40 agricultural cooperatives and which associates 14,000 producers.

“We have been dealing with environmental sustainability since 2004 – said Pier Paolo Rosetti, general manager of Conserve Italia – but ours is also economic and social, which means, among other things, a correct start to work for our 3,000 collaborators”.

According to the document, attention to environmental sustainability already begins during the agricultural phase, the first of the supply chain, through the optimization of water consumption, the reduction of the use of fertilizers and the use of precision agriculture. It then explains how the factories use renewable energy sources.

“We use the wind source to cover the energy needs for the processing of all Valfrutta products”, added Rosetti. Furthermore, every year 50,000 tons of residues are recovered, production waste which is destined for zootechnical feeding and energy production. In the last steps of the supply chain, according to the report, the use of plastic is reduced with investments in eco-sustainable packaging. The last step concerns transport and highlights the increasing use of train use and the multimodal system. (HANDLE).
