Obligation to wear masks in places of nightlife and squares, green pass in means of transport

The green pass checks on public transport begin on Monday, as well as in bars, restaurants, hotels and other meeting places. Yesterday the committee for public order and safety took place which established, at the instigation of the prefect, an intensification of the checks in conjunction with the entry into force of the rules provided for by the decree of 26 November: in short, the reinforced green pass (i.e. the one you get only if vaccinated or cured from Covid) to access shows, sporting events, restaurants and discos; the “basic” green pass, on the other hand, becomes mandatory to access hotels, changing rooms, regional and inter-regional trains, buses, water buses and trams (with the exception of passengers under the age of twelve).

Means of transport

In this regard, Actv has communicated that the green pass obligation concerns all urban (navigation, car, tram and people mover) and extra-urban connections. An administrative sanction from 400 to 1,000 euros is applied to offenders, which can be further increased by law. The checks will be carried out, under the coordination of the prefectures and in collaboration with the police, also by company personnel or by external personnel appointed by the company. It will not be possible to check all of them but, as highlighted yesterday by the prefect, the goal is to carry out as many checks as possible.

Venice, outdoor masks

The Municipality of Venice has also decided on some new restrictions: from tomorrow, 3 December, it will be necessary to wear masks outdoors not only in the local fairs and markets but also in the “nightlife” areas, or in the most crowded squares and fields . In addition, from 6 December the green pass will be mandatory for all those who access from the piers to the public transport piers, to facilitate random checks. This is established by an ordinance signed today by the mayor Luigi Brugnaro, which will be in force until January 15, 2022.

The areas in which the ordinance applies are: in Mestre, piazza Ferretto, riviera XX Settembre and neighboring streets, piazzale Donatori di Sangue, calle Legrenzi; in Venice, Fondamenta degli Ormesini-Misericordia, Campo San Giacometto, Naranseria, Cesare Battisti, Santa Margherita, Piazza San Marco, Mercerie and Rialto bridge. In addition to the biweekly markets of Mestre, Marghera, Lido; at the water bus landing stages, including the access walkways; and in every other occasion of time and place in which it is not possible to respect the interpersonal distance.
